Golden City of India

The Capital city of Uttar Pradesh and often described as the ‘City of Nawabs’, Lucknow is one of the most pristine and multicultural tourist destinations of India. The city primarily flourished during the 18th and the 19th centuries as an artistic and cultural center of India under the reign of the Nawabs of Awadh. The city is also the second largest city of North India and the 11th largest city in the country. The city contains various architectural wonders, historical monuments, cuisines and is a cultural hub in itself. The beautiful city features an array of tourist attractions and classic activities that travelers can visit and enjoy.

The city itself derives its name from Lakshman Teela where Lord Rama’s brother is believed to have stayed after having returned from exile giving the city one of it’s earliest names — Lakhanpur. From 1350 AD to Independence, the Delhi Sultanate, the Mughal Empire, the Nawabs of Awadh, the East India Company and the British have ruled Lucknow. People of Lucknow participated actively in India’s Independence movement. The pact of 1916 between the Congress and the Muslim League was negotiated in Lucknow to increase pressure on British for greater autonomy.

Bara Imambara

The Bara Imambara of Lucknow is one of the most famous monuments of the city. Also known as Asfi Imambara, after the name of the Nawab of Lucknow who got it constructed, it is an important place of worship for the Muslims who come here every year to celebrate the religious festival of Muharram. The Imambara is primarily known for its incredible maze, known as Bhul Bhulaiya locally, which is located on the upper floor of the monument.

Chota Imambara

The Chhota Imambara, or the Imambara of Hussainabad, is one of the most beautiful and attractive buildings in the old city of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh in India. This imposing monument lies to the west of Bara Imambara and is a true sight to behold.

The Imambara is beautifully adorned with decorations and chandeliers at the time of special festivals, especially Muharram. In fact, this 19th-century building is also referred to as the ‘Palace of Lights’ by European visitors and writers because of the profuse decorations of the monument at specific events.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa

A part of the Bada Imambara or the Asafi Imambada, this is a labyrinth structure inside this monument. The Bada Imambada was built by Asaf- ud- Daulah, the Nawab of Awadh. An imambada is a shrine structure which is usually built by the Shia Muslims for the Azadari purpose. This labyrinth structure was made mainly to confuse enemies if they ever tried to attack the devotees during the time of their prayer.

Hazratganj

This is a very famous market place which has been existing since the times of the Mughal rulers. This market arena is situated in the heart of the beautiful city of Agra. Here you not only get shops but also shopping complexes, restaurants, hotels, offices and so much more. You can take this as the main shopping district when you are in Agra and you can simply get everything you want out here. Starting from sweet shops to the most modern clothings and accessories, you will get everything here.

Chowk

The Chowk area in the Indian city of Lucknow is one of the oldest markets in the state as well as the whole of North India. Lucknow is an ancient city, and its presence and significance are ubiquitous throughout Indian history. Right from the eras of Badshahs and Nawabs to the rule of the British Lucknow has occupied quite a prominent place. A market area right in the heart of this colorful city will share the same essence. Chowk market is one of those places of the city that are a window into its rich cultural heritage. Beginning from Chikan work to succulent kebabs, one can find it all at the bustling street.

Dr. Ambedkar Park

The Ambedkar Memorial Park was constructed by the Mayawati Government in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. The park was built to commemorate the people who dedicated their life to equality and human justice like Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Kanshi Ram, and others. With a budget of a whopping seven billion rupees, the park is one of the loveliest things to see in Lucknow.

Lucknow Zoological Garden

Located in the heart of Lucknow, the Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Prani Udyan or Lucknow Zoo is a favorite haunt of wildlife enthusiasts from all over the city. This massive zoo is spread over an area of 71.6 acres and was established in the year 1921 to commemorate the visit of His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales to Lucknow. It was formerly known as the Prince of Wales Zoo but was later renamed after. Some of the fascinating animals and birds such as Royal Bengal Tiger, White Tiger, Lion, Wolf, Great Pied Hornbill, Golden Pheasant, and Silver Pheasant can be spotted here in their natural habitat.

The British Residency

Built to serve as the residence of of the British Resident General, The Residency is a group of buildings that is mentioned in the map of Indian history because of its spectacular sequences of events. The monument got popular in the year 1857 due to Sepoy Mutiny. This time, the palace served as the shelter of all the Europeans living in the city of Awadh. The building is declared as a protected monument by Archaeological Survey of India.

Gomti Riverfront Park

This is wonderful place to hangout in evening just make sure you reach before 7 pm or it gets closed by 8pm, its so long you’ll enjoy walking around and sit around for hours together and have cool brazenly in Evening) This is made of the city and very well maintained by municipal corporation would also feel that they should do something for mosquitoes.

Chandrika Devi Temple

Chandrika Devi Temple is situated in Aashiyana Lucknow and is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Chandi – the combined form of Kali, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. The shrine also has a pond in the premises where a statue of Lord Shiva is installed. The temple is thronged by a large number of pilgrims every day; hence the best time to visit is during the early morning.

Husainabad Clock Tower

Husainabad is a beautiful city famous for the Clock Tower and is located in Lucknow near Rumi Darwaza, which was built by Nawab Nasir-ud-din Haider to mark the moment of arrival of the 1st Lieutenant Governor of United Province of Avadh named Sir George Couper. This Clock Tower is said to be the tallest clock tower in India. The tower is 67 meters tall and has been designed by Roskell Payne. The parts of the clock built with Gun Metal. The pendulum of the clock has a length of 14 feet which is also the longest in India. The dial of the huge clock has been shaped like twelve-petalled flower surrounded by bells. The design of the clock tower in Husainabad reflects a combination of two styles, Victorian and Gothic. This is the perfect example of artistic brilliance and should definitely feature on your itinerary.

Janeshwar Mishra Park

Janeshwar Mishra Park is a newly constructed park, located in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. The park is dedicated to a local namesake politician and is believed to be the 10th largest park in Asia. The park has a lush green atmosphere with a variety of plants and birds flocking the gardens. It comes under the green belt of Lucknow and is counted as a mini-forest.
